The Toro Foundation

The Toro Foundation is an independent, nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization that supports the volunteer and philanthropic interests of Toro and its employees through matching gifts, volunteer grants, elective grants, and United Way contributions.

We've been a steward of the earth for more than 80 years. For that reason, our Foundation's primary focus is supporting organizations that preserve the outdoor environment. We also support programs that enhance education, health and welfare, culture, the arts, and civic projects.

Guidelines
The Toro Foundation Board of Directors has dedicated 2006 to a thorough review of the foundation's mission and guidelines. During this time, we will accept grant applications from organizations whose missions focus on the environment or education with emphasis on turf maintenance, agronomy and water management. Applicant organizations also must be located in communities in which The Toro Company has a facility.

The Toro Foundation accepts grant applications from organizations that are tax exempt under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. Preference is given to requests for program funds over endowment or capital fund requests and to organizations where Toro employees volunteer. Grants are evaluated based on criteria such as mission, employee involvement, geographical area, environmental component, industry relevance, and the presence of United Way funds. Because the Toro Foundation provides significant support to the United Way , affiliated agencies are precluded from additional support.

Application Deadlines
Grant requests will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. Application deadlines are January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15.

United Way
The United Way, which addresses critical local issues and improves people's lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities, is one of The Toro Foundation's primary benefactors. Each year, Toro employees donate generously through individual contributions and fundraising events. The Foundation matches these contributions dollar-for-dollar and provides products for local auctions and charitable events. In 2005, the total cash contribution to the United Way was nearly $753,200.

Matching Gifts
The Toro Foundation supports the educational, environmental, and public broadcasting organizations that mean the most to our employees or their spouses. We match individual gifts between $25 to $1000 per calendar year to qualifying nonprofit organizations throughout the United States.

The Foundation also rewards employee philanthropy by matching up to $1000 of contributions raised by Toro teams. Typical recipients include the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, March of Dimes, and the American Cancer Society.
